Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the City's comprehensive plan to test, trace, and treat every case of COVID-19. Through a partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals, the City's "Test and Trace Corps" will launch with 1,000 contact tracers to investigate cases, trace and monitor contacts, and manage all case data and inquiries by the end of May. Their work will allow the City to immediately isolate and care for those who test positive for the virus, and then rapidly track, assess, and quarantine anyone they came into contact with who they may have infected.

On the next edition of #RepresentNYC: Dr. Anjna Ganatra elaborates on the #types of #testing for #COVID19 and #where to get tested.

"With every resource at our disposal, we are moving mountains to test and trace every New Yorker," said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "COVID-19 has challenged us in ways we never thought possible, but it's no match for the ingenuity of our city."

"The single most important thing we can do to combat and contain the novel coronavirus is test for it." Governor Andrew Cuomo said.  Now the FDA has approved New York State to authorize the state's 28 public and private labs to begin manual, semi-automated and automated testing for novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.  The approval allows the state to dramatically increase testing capacity to thousands of tests per day. The approval also extends to the Roche high-volume platform for testing. Testing is free to all eligible New Yorkers as ordered by a health care provider or by calling the NYS COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065.

In New York City

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that any person with COVID-19 symptoms is now eligible to receive a test in New York City. Those who have been exposed to a positive case or work in a congregate residential setting are also eligible for testing regardless of symptoms. This comes as the City continues to expand its testing capacity with the aim to test and trace every positive case of COVID-19.

“Lack of widespread testing was our Achilles heel from day one, but we’re rewriting that story every day,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Our effort to test and trace very New Yorker in need of a test is coming together at lightning speed, giving us the tools we need to defeat the virus once and for all.”

Expanded Testing

New Yorkers will now be eligible to receive a COVID-19 test if they have:

·         COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of age, chronic conditions or occupation

·         Come in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient, regardless of symptoms

·         Work in a congregate residential setting (nursing home, shelter, or adult care facility), regardless of symptoms

Drive-Through Testing

Drive-through sampling sites are a critical part of the Governor’s nation-leading program to test for COVID-19. These facilities reduce density and the potential for spread by keeping people who are sick or at risk of having contracted coronavirus out of healthcare facilities where they could infect other people.

The drive-through sites are prioritizing sampling for symptomatic individuals that are part of the highest risk population, those who have been in close contact with a positive case, and, as necessary, health care workers, nursing home employees and first responders on the front lines.

Testing is by appointment only. Residents who believe they have been in close contact with a case and have symptoms, and would like to be tested can be assessed by calling the COVID-19 hotline at 888-364-3065.

Individual test results are sent to the individual by phone, texted, or they can access the online patient portal at http://www.Bioreference.com.
