State of Mind: Spring Break

Spring Break: that wonderful time of the academic year when college students all across America put aside their textbooks in exchange for bathing suits, bikinis and body oil! If you are a college student, you are probably already counting down the days to sun, surf and sand. But believe it or not, the key to a successful spring break is not just about showing up and throwing up.

Having a successful spring break requires a little preparation and a lot of common sense. Host and Producer, Krishna C. Nadella, speaks with Austin Shelly, Penn State junior, about preparing and surviving the most wonderful time of the year in a college student's life!

HERstory: Highlighting Women of Color

We conclude HERstory and Women's History Month with a compilation of all the women we highlighted during this month.

We also join host Taty one last time as she sits down with NYC-based independent filmmaker, Christina Raia. Like Deepa Mehta, this Indian-American independent filmmaker is conscious of the industry's lack of color and gender representation in front of and behind the camera.

We also showcase one of Christina's short films, a comedy entitled Juice It which was an official selection at the  2014 Coney Island Film Festival and HollyShorts 8th Annual Monthly Film Series in LA among others.

Star Wars Day Documentary

On April 29th, 2016, Reedy High School aided the Make-A-Wish Foundation in a reveal that granted a 5-year-old named Rivers his wish to train at the Star Wars Jedi Training Camp at Disney World. This an All-American High School Film Festival winning production.

NightCap: Episode 10

According to The College Board, 2014-2015 yearly costs for an in-state school was about $24,000 and for a private college it was almost double. With the price of college so high, financial aid is crucial. Filling out the Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can make you eligible for multiple types of financial aid—including grants, scholarships, student-loans and work-study.

While filling out this form may seem straightforward, many find it confusing and one small mistake can be costly. We enlisted the help of Sonia Sendoya, co-founder and VP for the Latino Youth for Higher Education Program (LYHEP), who can explain the process. After the interview, stay tuned for the NIGHTCAP Spotlight on the newly formed dance group “No Days Off.”
